Garenin is a tiny fishing village nestled into a bay on the western coast of the Isle of Lewis, Scotland, now a conservation area. We visited this village in July 2010, and I took a walk along the cliff top on a classic grey and windy summer’s day. The rhythmic and melodic ideas that formed during that walk stayed with me, and were developed into this piece in August 2012.
