Racing Calm

It’s 5am. I’m making tea and toast. One part of my mind deals steadily with the slow, calm, early morning world. Another part races through a hyper-analysis of everyday objects and happenings. Chains of random association – tens of objects linked in fractions of a second – the kettle boils – the toast pops up. 5am, racing calm. On to another day.
