Chorizo y Queso

from TSC II by The String Contingent

/

about

The initial ideas for this piece came to me while on a bus trip with Chris from Barcelona to Pamplona where we walked the Camino de Santiago. This ancient route has seen countless pilgrims tread its path to visit the supposed resting place of Saint James in the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. In more recent times it has provided an increasingly popular escape from modern life. People come from across the world to walk it for a huge range of reasons — spiritual, philosophical, because of tradition, or the simple love of physical exercise. Life is distilled on the Camino: walking, eating, drinking, thinking, talking and sleeping. Such simplicity is easy to lose touch with in our society of excess and desire, where it’s sometimes difficult to appreciate what we have. On our Spanish sojourn this amounted to a lot of chorizo y queso — or salami and cheese!
